Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, accompanied by Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa and the Ministers of Finance, Digital Economy, Commerce, and Agriculture, as well as key senior officials, reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to serve as a key partner for private sector investments, meeting with several leaders of multinational corporations.

During the meetings, the premier emphasized Thailand’s strategic location, skilled workforce, and government policies that encourage inclusive economic growth, positioning the country as a hub for trade and investment.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn met with Michel Demaré, Chair of the Board of AstraZeneca, to discuss expanding research and development into areas such as non-communicable diseases. AstraZeneca’s partnership with Thailand aligns with the government’s vision to make the country a wellness and medical hub.

The premier also met with Stefan Oelrich, President of Bayer AG’s Pharmaceuticals Division. During their discussions, Oelrich praised the Prime Minister’s emphasis on investing in human capital and reiterated Bayer’s commitment to advancing healthcare and agriculture innovation in Thailand.

Expanding sustainable practices with F&Bs

In her meeting with Coca-Cola CEO and Chairman James Quincey, Paetongtarn mentioned the company’s pivotal role in advancing Thailand’s Sustainable Packaging Management Act and explored additional opportunities for collaboration in areas such as sustainable water management and soft power.

For his part, Remy Ejel, CEO of Zone Asia, Oceania, and Africa at Nestlé, pledged to support Thai farmers by expanding coffee cultivation and to procure coffee beans from Thai farmers at fair prices.

Meanwhile, Takeshi Niinami, CEO of Suntory Holdings Co., Ltd., discussed the company’s plans to expand its eco-friendly operations in Thailand. Their discussions centered on boosting the production of recyclable and eco-friendly plastic bottles, a crucial element of Suntory’s sustainability strategy.

Partnering for Thailand’s digital transformation

In meetings with tech leaders, Paetongtarn underlined Thailand’s digital skills training initiatives and “Cloud First” policy to empower a digital transformation of the country’s industries and government.

Sabastian Niles, President and Chief Legal Officer at Salesforce, expressed readiness to help expand Thailand’s digital public services and technology adoption. Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer at Google, thanked the Thai government for supporting its plan to develop a cloud data center in Chonburi province, adding that it will support digital skills training in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

In a meeting with Matt Garman, CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Paetongtarn praised the company’s decision to launch its Asia Pacific (Thailand) Region, as well as its plans to “invest more than $5 billion and support an average of more than 11,000 full-time equivalent jobs annually in Thailand.”

Connecting supply chains in the region and beyond

The Thai premier also met with Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World (UAE), who reaffirmed DP World’s support for the Thai government’s logistics efforts, including plans to expand the Lad Krabang Inland Container Depot into a regional multimodal logistics hub and to develop B Terminal at Laem Chabang Port.

The meeting builds on previous bilateral discussions. Bin Sulayem revealed that DP World is ready to conduct a feasibility study on investing in the Landbridge project, which would connect the Gulf of Thailand to the Andaman Sea, further cementing Thailand’s role as a key transportation hub for ASEAN and beyond.
